Statement of Faith
We believe that the nonnegotiable beliefs that all Christians hold in common are found in the Nicene Creed.
The Nicene Creed
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, seen and unseen.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father, God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate of the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary and became truly human. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son, who with the Father and the Son is worshipped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.
We believe in the one holy catholic and apostolic church. We acknowledge one baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.
Our Confession
We confess belief in the triune God — Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. This confession embraces the biblical witness to God’s activity in creation, encompasses God’s gracious self-involvement in the dramas of history, and anticipates the consummation of God’s reign.
The created order is designed for the well-being of all creatures and as the place of human dwelling in covenant with God. As sinful creatures, however, we have broken that covenant, become estranged from God, and stand in need of redemption.
We hold in common with all Christians a faith in the mystery of salvation in and through Jesus Christ that is available to all people.
We share the Christian belief that God’s redemptive love is realized in human life by the activity of the Holy Spirit, both in personal experience and in the community of believers.
We understand ourselves to be part of Christ’s universal church when by adoration, proclamation, and service we become conformed to Christ.
We recognize that the reign of God is both a present and future reality.
We recognize the authority of Scripture in matters of faith, the confession that our justification as sinners is by grace through faith, and the sober realization that the church is in need of continual reformation and renewal.
Grace pervades our understanding of Christian faith and life. Grace is the undeserved, unmerited, loving action of God in human existence through the ever-present Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is at work in the heart of every person, even before we believe in or accept Christ. That Spirit renews us at the time of our salvation and continues to perfect the believer in love and action for the rest of their lives.
A Christian’s personal salvation cannot remain completely personal. Faith and salvation are lived out in the community of faith with other believers. That faith is put into action through the care of others and outreach to the whole world.
The theology, doctrine, and polity of Kennesaw Church is rooted in the Methodist and Wesleyan traditions, though we share no formal connection with any denomination or association.
